Are You Seriously Arguing With Me...Without an Actual Point?

Yes I'll admit it - Clemson and South Carolina fans will always argue and there doesn't always have to be a point. But sometimes its just ridiculous!

Clemson was in Columbia on Saturday for the 99th consecutive meeting of the in-state rivals. (We've actually played 104 games).

Anyways, Clemson was ahead most of the game, but USC pulled ahead in the last few minutes of the game. Clemson kicked a field goal as time ran out, winning 23-21.

That of course leads to "Who SHOULD have won" debates.

Case in point:

I was on my Facebook on Sunday, when I got a message from a girl I went to school with at USC. (Keep in mind, I'm Clemson fan who went to school at University of South Carolina)

Here's how the conversation went:

Her: cutting it pretty close there, huh?

Me: Yup, but a win is a win.

Her: But who wants a "barely" win?

Me: "Barely Winning" is better than "Barely Losing"

Her: No, its not...if you barely win that mean you almost lost. But if you barely lose that means you almost won and winning is great.

Me: Exactly. But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. So at the end of the day, whoever has the most points wins. Hence the fact that Clemson won. Like you said "winning is great."

Her: Everybody gets lucky once in a while.

Me: Wow. I'm astonished at how well thought out your arguments are. You should be a professional debater.

Her: haha thanks!!! hey it'll be your birthday soon and you'll be soo old.

Ummmmm...what?

Am I the only one who doesn't understand her logic?

Not The Time To Gloat

My first University of Tennessee game was a success. I had a great time with friends I hadn't seen in a while. I loved being around fans as enthusiastic as UT fans, especially when they got into it with South Carolina fans. And the win didn't hurt either.

After the game UT fans were excited and rowdy and USC fans... well you can imagine. And yet as we were soaking in a victory most didn't think we would have and USC was moping because of the loss, no-one would even imagine the tragedy the next morning would bring.

As I was walking out of the game, I couldn't wait to write a big "I told you so" blog. I was really going let all you USC fans who doubted UT have it! But after learning about Sunday's fire that claimed the lives of seven college students, six of which went to USC, football just doesn't seem that important anymore. It is hard to fathom how seven seemingly healthy, young, happy adults could suddenly be gone in the span of a morning. I can't imagine what their parents are going through right now. USC students, family members and friends were probably still talking about the football game Sunday morning. At that point no-one knew about the fire, and the loss of the football game was probably the worst thing on their minds. No-one could imagine the day would get a lot worse.

More than anything, I want to extend my condolences to the family and friends of those who lost a loved one on Sunday. I'm praying for everyone who goes to USC and Clemson, and for everyone who knew someone involved in the fire.

A Time of Tragedy

It's the kind of phone call that just hits you in the gut.

A massive house fire and anywhere between 6-13 people from your old college are dead. That's what I got on Sunday, when I was at home preparing to catch a nap before work.

Instantly - you go into panic mode. A lot of my friends still live in and around the campus area of USC. So I grabbed my cell phone and start calling people. That's when I realize, I need more information.

So I go online and start looking at the local papers for Columbia and Myrtle Beach. Thank goodness for online editions!

Even still, I went to places like Facebook and Myspace to see if anyone has posted anything at all... plans for the weekend, vacation plans or "Oh my God, did you see what happened?"

I was too nervous - I couldn't go back to sleep. I had to keep updated on everything that was coming out. Maybe it was the news guy in me, maybe it was the connection.

Its no secret that I don't like South Carolina Football, but the school - I loved. I met some of my best friends in classes, even if I didn't wanna be in class.

Even now, I still don't know. I haven't been gone that long from USC, some of those killed, I could easily know. Guess I'll have to sit - and wait.

I can't imagine being a parent right now, not knowing for sure.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those 7 students... and the family, who are just waiting on a call.

I Need a Fork and Salt...its Time to Eat My Words!

All I can say is "Wow!"

Before I even get started, just lemme say...this is the one time I don't mind being wrong. I've mentioned before that I'm a die-hard Clemson fan, and I - in no way - like University of South Carolina football.

With that said, last night during the UT vs USC game, I was blown away. The fact that UT got a 21 point lead and held it going into the half was just amazing - Colt Brennan did a great job.

But....with the Gamecocks having 5 turnovers, the Vols should have capitalized more. In fact, the first half was all Vols, but they let USC come back and take the lead in the second half. It took a last second field goal to tie it back up. The Gamecocks are a definite fourth quarter team.

The game should have never gone into overtime, at all.

So yes, I did say the Other Producer was crazy for thinking Tennessee would win. I still stand by that, because that was not the USC who played in the first six games of the season. I'm not sure who Steve Spurrier brought to Rocky Top, maybe it was Lou's old team...

Bloodthirsty SEC Football

This is not only my first blog on here but my first blog ever, so bear with me. This is a week for firsts, my first blog and more importantly my first University of Tennessee football game. Now although I didn't go to UT, I did live in Knoxville for a little more than a year. And while living there I admit I jumped on the bandwagon and became a fan.

At this point, you are probably wondering why you care? Well for anyone who knows anything about SEC football, you know there's a pretty big match up on Saturday.

UT takes on the University of South Carolina in Knoxville. I'm going to use this new blog technology to make a prediction on the game. Don't worry it isn't a bet, because that would be illegal, I think.

Anyway against my better judgement I'm predicting that UT is going to win. I know most of you are probably laughing at me right now. I know, I know. USC is ranked # 15 on the AP Poll, Tennessee isn't even in the top 25. Tennessee has already lost three games. I've heard it all, but when it comes down to it I think UT will have the fans, the tradition and the talent to win. Even if my co-producer thinks USC is going to trample the Vols. Ironically enough, he hates USC, being a Clemson fan and all.

Ok so enough rambling on, let's get to the good stuff the Final Prediction....

UT 28

USC 21
